Securities Industry Development Centre (SIDC)-Investor Education Campaign 2003

The Securities Commission’s training and education arm, the Securities Industry Development Centre (SIDC) will launch an investor education campaign entitled “My Investments, My Rights!” on Saturday, May 10 at Wisma Negeri, Seremban. The launch which will include a free public seminar and an exhibition is open to all members of the public. The opening ceremony will be conducted by the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs YB Tan Sri Dato’ Hj Muhyiddin bin Haji Mohd Yassin.

The campaign will be based on the premise that for every type of investment, a person has a:

  • right to seek information
  • right to voice opinions
  • right to lodge complaints

The SIDC campaign will focus on the rights and responsibilities as an investor, the risks and rewards of every investment opportunity in the capital market and how to be a wise investor Investors can look out for:

  • The Star BizWeek series of 12 articles starting today
  • Investor Education Talks - which provide face-to-face interaction with small groups of new and long-time investors. Targeted groups include government servants, members of women associations, community groups and university students.
  • The Malaysian Investor or Pelabur Malaysia website (www.min.com.my) - that aims to educate the Internet savvy Malaysian on various aspects of the capital market through easy-to-read articles, simulation games, videos and quizzes.
  • The Securities Commission (SC) website (www.sc.com.my) which provides among others, investor alerts, a list of licensed intermediaries, policies and guidelines pertaining to the capital market, press releases and updated lists of approved securities by the Syariah Advisory Council.
  • Educational publications – the SIDC publishes educational pamphlets on topics such as “How to be a Wise Investor” and “Investing in the Malaysian Capital Market”, available free at the SC.
  • Exhibitions - tailored to meet specific audiences in the Klang Valley and in small towns throughout Malaysia.
  • Training programmes and seminars.
